PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide (1025.18 g/mol) analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). A lactam bridge between Asp and Lys constrains its structure, and it differs from its parent compound Melanotan II mainly at the C-terminus (free acid instead of amide).
Bremelanotide is a melanocortin receptor agonist with activity at MC4R and MC3R, receptors densely expressed in hypothalamic nuclei that regulate motivated behaviours and energy balance. It is used to investigate central nervous system melanocortin pathways, as distinct from peripheral vascular mechanisms.
Supplied as 10 mg of lyophilized reference material at ≥99.2% HPLC purity with a batch-specific third-party COA. This is research-grade material, not a drug product — see the regulatory note in the Preclinical Research tab.
Each production lot is independently tested for identity, purity and content. Select a batch to view its analytical results — your vial label lists the batch number.

Bremelanotide is a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist with activity at MC3R and MC4R (and MC1R). Structurally it is closely related to Melanotan II, differing at the C-terminus (free acid rather than amide).
Unlike vascular-acting compounds, bremelanotide is studied for actions within the central nervous system, particularly hypothalamic melanocortin circuits. Female rat studies reported selective increases in appetitive sexual behaviours.
Clinical pharmacology studies observed transient increases in blood pressure and decreases in heart rate after administration, a key safety consideration in the approved product labelling.
Endogenous melanocortins are cleaved from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and act on five receptor subtypes (MC1R–MC5R). MC4R signalling in the paraventricular nucleus and related circuits links the melanocortin system to appetite, energy expenditure and sexual behaviour, making melanocortin agonists useful pharmacological probes.
The approved product was evaluated in the RECONNECT phase 3 trials. Those data relate to the pharmaceutical product, not research-grade material.

Allow the vial to reach room temperature. Introduce sterile or bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner glass wall — do not inject directly onto the powder cake. Swirl gently until fully dissolved; do not shake or vortex, as this can promote aggregation.
