What Is NAD+?

β-Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is the redox cofactor at the centre of cellular energy metabolism — a dinucleotide of 663.43 g/mol, not a peptide. It is supplied here as a reference-grade reagent because it is routinely used alongside peptide work in metabolic and mitochondrial assays.

NAD+ plays two distinct roles. As a cofactor it cycles reversibly between NAD+ and NADH, carrying electrons through glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation. As a substrate it is irreversibly consumed by sirtuins, PARPs and CD38, which cleave it to release nicotinamide — and that consumption is why NAD+ availability became a question in ageing biology at all.

Supplied as 500 mg of hygroscopic white to off-white powder at ≥98% HPLC purity with a batch-specific third-party COA. Store desiccated and prepare solutions fresh. The first production batch is in final QC; the form below will bring you the certificate.

NAD+ chemical properties
Nameβ-Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)
Synonymsβ-NAD, NAD, Coenzyme I, DPN (diphosphopyridine nucleotide)
CAS Number53-84-9
Molecular FormulaC21H27N7O14P2
Molecular Weight663.43 g/mol
Sequence (3-letter)Nicotinamide mononucleotide–pyrophosphate–adenosine monophosphate
Sequence (1-letter)Not applicable — dinucleotide, not a peptide
NAD+ is a dinucleotide cofactor with no amino-acid sequence. It is listed here because researchers buy it alongside peptides, not because it is one.
Structure ClassPyridine dinucleotide: nicotinamide riboside and adenosine linked by a pyrophosphate bridge — a small molecule, not a peptide
FormWhite to off-white hygroscopic powder
Purity≥98.5% (RP-HPLC); identity confirmed by LC-MS
Content per Vial500 mg net peptide
SolubilityFreely soluble in water; prepare solutions fresh and keep cold, as NAD+ hydrolyses in aqueous solution
Storage ConditionsLyophilized: −20 °C, desiccated and protected from light. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, use within 28 days. NAD+ is hygroscopic and hydrolyses in solution; keep the vial sealed and desiccated, and prepare aqueous solutions immediately before use rather than storing them.
