What Is 5-Amino-1MQ?
5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), supplied as the iodide salt at 286.11 g/mol. It is not a peptide; it is a methylated quinolinium compound, stocked because it sits squarely in the same NAD+ and metabolic research as the other compounds in this category.
NNMT transfers a methyl group from SAM to nicotinamide, producing 1-methylnicotinamide and removing nicotinamide from the NAD+ salvage pathway. Inhibiting the enzyme is therefore studied as a route to preserving NAD+ precursor availability — the mechanistic reason 5-amino-1MQ and NAD+ appear together in the literature.
Supplied as 50 mg of crystalline powder at ≥98% HPLC purity with a batch-specific third-party COA. Requires a DMSO stock. Remember that the stated mass is the iodide salt, not the free cation. The first batch is in final QC; request the certificate below.

NNMT Inhibition
5-Amino-1MQ is a substrate-site-directed inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), with a reported IC50 of about 1.2 µM. NNMT methylates nicotinamide to 1-methylnicotinamide using SAM as the methyl donor, which diverts nicotinamide away from NAD+ salvage.
The NAD+ Connection
Because NNMT consumes nicotinamide, inhibiting it has been proposed as a way to preserve substrate for the NAD+ salvage pathway. This is the mechanistic link between 5-amino-1MQ and the NAD+ literature, and it is why the two are frequently studied together.
Reported Adipocyte Effects
In 3T3-L1 adipocyte culture the compound has been reported to reduce lipogenesis, with an EC50 around 30 µM — roughly 25-fold above its enzymatic IC50, a gap worth accounting for in experimental design. Downstream animal findings come from mouse models, not human studies.
Salt Form and Molar Calculations
The material is supplied as the iodide salt. About 1.89 mg of salt delivers 1 mg of the free cation, so molar concentrations calculated from the salt mass will overstate the active species by nearly a factor of two if the counter-ion is ignored.
Limitations
Identifier data for this compound is weaker than for the peptides in this catalog: several major supplier pages list the formula and mass but leave the CAS field blank, and a second CAS (685079-15-6) circulates for the parent cation from a single secondary source.

Reconstitution Procedure
Allow the vial to reach room temperature. Introduce sterile or bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner glass wall — do not inject directly onto the powder cake. Swirl gently until fully dissolved; do not shake or vortex, as this can promote aggregation.
