What Is ARA-290?
ARA-290, also known as cibinetide, is an 11-residue linear peptide of roughly 1257 g/mol derived from the helix-B surface of erythropoietin. It carries an N-terminal pyroglutamate and is studied as a tissue-protective agent that deliberately leaves EPO's effect on red-cell production behind.
The design logic is a receptor split. Erythropoietin signals through two different receptor arrangements: the EPOR homodimer, which drives erythropoiesis, and an EPOR/CD131 heteroreceptor described as the innate repair receptor, associated with tissue protection and anti-inflammatory signalling. ARA-290 is built from the part of the EPO surface that engages the second but not the first.
It appears in some supplier catalogs under “blends”, which is simply wrong — it is a single peptide. Supplied as 16 mg of white lyophilized powder at ≥99% HPLC purity with a batch-specific third-party COA. The first batch is in final QC; request the certificate below.

Not a Blend, and Not Erythropoietic
Despite often being grouped with peptide blends, ARA-290 is a single 11-residue peptide. It is derived from the helix-B surface of erythropoietin — the face of the molecule that does not contact the EPO homodimeric receptor — which is why it is reported to lack the erythropoietic activity of EPO itself.
The Innate Repair Receptor
ARA-290 is described as selectively activating the EPOR/CD131 heteroreceptor, often called the innate repair receptor, without activating EPOR homodimers. That receptor split is the entire design rationale: it separates EPO's reported tissue-protective signalling from its effect on red-cell production.
Research Areas
Published work has examined ARA-290 in models of neuropathic pain and small-fibre neuropathy, including sarcoidosis-associated neuropathy, and in inflammatory and ischaemic tissue-injury models. Trials have been small, and findings should be treated as exploratory.
Pyroglutamate N-Terminus
The N-terminal residue is pyroglutamate — a cyclized glutamate — which affects how the peptide behaves in sequencing and mass spectrometry. Listings that write the sequence as QEQLERALNSS have simply expanded the pyroglutamate to glutamine, and the two notations describe the same molecule.
Limitations
The identifier data for this compound is unusually inconsistent: three different molecular formulas and two CAS numbers circulate across supplier catalogs, all paired with a mass near 1257 g/mol. Verify identity by mass spectrometry against the batch certificate rather than relying on catalog data.

Reconstitution Procedure
Allow the vial to reach room temperature. Introduce sterile or bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner glass wall — do not inject directly onto the powder cake. Swirl gently until fully dissolved; do not shake or vortex, as this can promote aggregation.
